FIREHOUSE ROAD
Joshua Cunningham, Chief
White Lake Fire Company
Years in service: 18
Occupation: Grounds superintendent
Joshua Cunningham’s two older brothers were already firefighters when he joined up. The family’s roots in the fire service run deep, so naturally the boys would become firefighters, too.
Besides, they’d all practically grown up in the firehouse, and they were responding to calls before he could drive.
“Getting to and from calls was a problem,” he says. “We needed to get rides.”
But they figured it out, and now “Cunningham” is a common name on the White Lake roster, in leadership and the ranks. But whatever your last name might be, if you’re a first responder you’re one of them.
“The fire service is a large extended family,” and, he says, “It’s the most rewarding job in the world.”
